Willow Moss Texels
Willow Moss Texels are happy to announce the purchase of Tweed Profiteer bought out of the ring at the Kelso Ram sales, this high indexed tup was bought for his thickness, muscle, bone, strength and correctness. Profiteers first lambs are due in February 2011.
A further eleven ewes, gimmers and lambs were purchased at the Wedderlie dispersal sale. These were bought for their excellent skins and decent breeding figures.
Carlisle Sale May
At Carlisle May sale we won the reserve female championship with a yearling heifer, the Moss Ethelolga J878.
She was sired by the 25,000gns Wedderlie Blackdown F212 and was purchased by D & PA Evans, Tree Bridge herd in Middlesbourgh.
Also at Carlisle we purchased Gear Fieldsman H191, a superb Mr Eshton son. See our Herd Sires page for further information.
Increased Sales at The Moss
Private sales are up on last year as we have culled out the bottom end of the bulls with the fat trade being so good. Past customers and new, have been happy to pay a little more for better quality bulls as there cast bulls have brought in more. They also are upgrading their bull quality due to the finished trade paying a premium.
We have had a great demand for females with the 19 yearling heifers selling to Henry Catlin at Boston in Linconshire. We have sold a few older in calf cows with calves at foot as we are reducing the herd size due to the restrictions of us being in a NVZ area.
Our thanks go to the following purchasers:
- Stephan Edwards, Millstone herd, Staffordshire
- John Mountford, Morridge Side herd, Staffordshire
- Rhug estates, Wales
- J Jackson, Beningbrough herd. York
- J Thompson, Gargrave, N Yorkshire
- Jim Ford, Borders
- David Jones, Powys, Wales
- John S Mellor, Ivymoor herd, Derbyshire
Sterling & Bristol Bull Sales
We got off to a good start this year at the Stirling bull sale in February. The Moss Ethelweald H766 sold to a high of 7,000gns to George and Aileen McFadean from the Cherrybank herd in Perth.
Ethelweald has a high milk figure and a 600 day growth rate of +102 and overall has the highest SRI of +57. He is a son of our home bred bull The Moss Blacklord E570.
Also at Stirling we sold The Moss Kristof H788 for 5.000gns, a son out of Wrae Proud Imperial E062, who was Junior champion at Perth February bull sale 2007. Kristhof was purchased by A W Neish, Warminster.
In April we went to Bristol sale and I am glad to say that our two bulls sold well, with both bulls going to the Milton family in North Devon.
